BIOGRAPHY

Steven W. Renzetti comes from a family that has a rich history in golf. So it's not surprising that he has earned a reputation as one of the premier golf course superintendents in the Northeast in a relatively short period of time. Renzetti, 43 is so highly regarded by the LPGA Tour that he has been called upon many times to offer his expertise by performing on-site visits to other tournament venues and helping establish agronomic programs that will meet the rigorous standards excepted for a major professional golf event. Steve's work was noticed by LPGA officials at the renowned Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, site of the tour's Sybase Classic (formerly the JAL Big Apple Classic). Steve teamed up with noted golf course architect Arthur Hills to complete a comprehensive renovation project there. The golf course has since received accolades from both the LPGA Tour players and the golfing community.

Each year the conditioning of the golf course has been praised by LPGA players and officials for being the best maintained golf course on the women's professional circuit. During Steve's tenure at Wykagyl, it was ranked amongst the top 100 classic courses, peaking at No. 87

In 1999, Steve accepted an offer to become the superintendent at world-famous Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, NY. The A.W. Tillinghast design is annually ranked among the Golf Digest's top 100 courses and has in recent past played host to the Walker Cup Matches. During the past seven years at Quaker Ridge, Steve and his staff have completed numerous major projects. Under Steve's supervision, a 12,000 square foot maintenance building has been built, a new irrigation system installed, more than 3 miles of drainage pipe laid, the pump house has been relocated and two wells underwent rehabilitation programs. If that was not enough, a comprehensive bunker renovation program was initiated and a tree preservation and improvement program was done by Steve and his crew.

Steve's work has not gone unnoticed by his peers and other golf officials. He was elected to the Board of Directors of his local association (the Met GCSA) and serves as a rules official with the Metropolitan Golf Association, was appointed to numerous GCSAA committees and has served continuously since its inception on the SoftSpikes Advisory panel. He has been honored as a presenter at several different educational forums and has been featured in a number of golf publications.

Steve comes from a family with a distinguished golf background. His father Bill was a 33-year golf coach and his grandfather, Al Renzetti, was a longtime golf professional in the Metropolitan New York Section. After graduating from the University of Rhode Island in 1987 with a B.S. degree in Turf Grass management, the younger Renzetti quickly earned a reputation as a hard-working problem solver. His dedication and professional manner earned his first superintendents assignments at the ripe old age of 24 at Burning Tree Country Club, in Greenwich, Conn. After addressing some perpetually nagging problems that had long plagued the Connecticut golf course, he moved to Wykagyl just three years later.

As they say, the rest is history.
